SMALLER AND SMALLER

The world in our story is starting to get smaller and smaller, yay. Zoe and I have had to let go of quite a few things, which is great, but now I’m afraid we’ll have to cut out the slip and slide bit.  A good part of today has been spent thinking about how this might work…a character might need to slide down a long slip and slide…do we use olive oil?  I don’t think water would work ‘cause it would splash onto the floor and soap just seems icky.  We’d probably need to attach foam to the bottom of the slide for a more enjoyable ride, and where do we keep this thing?

Ah, I just remembered we want music in the play so should probably start on that soon.  We met with Ness the other night who shared some of her ideas for video in the play, which seem very cool and enriching.  One of the things video will help express in the play is scenery, and Ness had the idea of slowing down the footage of ie a forest, to add this poetic, ‘we’re not pretending this is real’ effect, which I had never thought of but likey.

It would also solve our problem of water sinking into the Carriage Works floorboards.  Simon and Eden who are designing the set had some muy coolio ideas as well, about canvas and projections and mini ferris wheels appearing 30 feet tall…ooo loo loo.  At the moment when I shut my eyes I picture wide strips of white canvas hanging from the ceiling and warm light spilling over soft paper gum tree bark covering bits of the floor.

I’m sure this will look relatively different on show night and I think I’m the only one attached to the bark.  Zo says we have nine weeks to go, and I’m so happy the time is a near!  Ahh.
