AUDITIONS + DANCING

The audition process was really exciting for me.  It was the first time we saw these characters that had been in our heads for so long finally chatting and moving about, and with such vis viva.  We stated things off with a large group rehearsal, the focus mainly being on getting to know one another and having fun. I couldn’t help but smile during the vocal warm up, the pipes!  We then divided the group into two and handed out the plays prologue.  One groups focus was to be on movement and the other on voice.  Five minutes.  Zoe and I returned to watch.  “Many moons ago, on a dark, dark night in a big smoggy bog, everybody slept.  Well almost everybody slept…” as the cast sang, spoke, chanted and echoed along to a guitar strumming and drumming as the other group lay intertwined in a  heap on the floor as a wolf pack, “they breathed in and exhaled raspy like…” then moved about the cave as wolf pups, it was beautiful to watch.

Last Sunday was much fun.  One of the scenes in the play is of a small town fair and line dance.  Through mere fate, a cast member’s friend happened to be a world champion line dancer and he so kindly offered to come teach the cast proper line dancing.  For three hours straight Bradley taught us how to boot-scoot-and boogy around all four corners, with much giggling, yee hawing and sweating.  Great fun.
